The skin of the lips is thinner and more delicate than the rest of the face. It contains fewer oil glands and less natural protection, and may be more prone to dryness, volume loss, and a duller colour. Ageing can also affect the lips and cause fine lines around the outer edge and downturned corners.
When we want to treat the inner and outer tissues of the lips, we turn to LipLase. This is a laser treatment that supports the lips’ structure, support, and colour. We offer this treatment and others from the Fotona Dynamis Nx Line to give our patients options when choosing a treatment for their concerns.

At OLA Aesthetics, serving West Perth, we are the first in the area to offer treatments from this laser platform. We love how diverse these treatments are and how they can be adjusted for each patient.
A Note From Dr Aleks
We have patients who are not interested in some of our other lip rejuvenation options because of the discomfort that comes with these treatments. Fotona LipLase can be a good alternative, as it involves minimal discomfort and can still improve the definition, symmetry, and fullness of the lips.
I like that this treatment supports the colour and texture of the lips and gives them a healthier appearance. We work with the natural shape of your lips, defining the vermilion border and creating lift around the mouth to help treat signs of ageing such as sagging, drooping and thin, crepey skin.

What Is Fotona LipLase™?
Fotona LipLase™ treats the lips using controlled heat. Using this treatment, we target both the surface and the deeper layers of tissue. This treatment can help improve definition around the lip border, support volume within the body of the lips and make the surface smoother and more even in tone. It can also encourage collagen production around the mouth to better support the lip tissue.
The Fotona lip laser approach is often chosen by those seeking nonsurgical and noninjectable improvements in shape, hydration, and texture. Treatments are done in a short in-office procedure and overseen by Dr Aleks or Dr Indi.
How Does Fotona LipLase™ Work?
The Fotona LipLase™ treatment uses a combination of SMOOTH® Er:YAG and PIANO laser technology to treat the lips at different depths. In SMOOTH® mode, heat pulses are delivered across the surface to activate collagen fibres and lightly tighten the tissue. PIANO mode works a little deeper, creating a steady, even warmth that supports new collagen growth and helps remodel the soft tissue beneath.
These two settings stimulate changes in the lips’ structure, increasing their size, improving the colour and redefining the vermilion border.
The OLA Experience
Consultation
Before any treatment, Dr Aleks and Dr Indi will take the time to sit down with you and discuss your goals for the lip area. They will examine your skin tone and texture, ask about your medical history and review any previous treatments to determine whether Fotona LipLase™ is the right option. This assessment also helps them decide on the best laser settings and treatment plan for your concerns.

Preparation
Before your LipLase treatment, make sure to protect your lips from sun exposure by using a lip balm that contains sunscreen. Arrive with clean skin that is free of makeup, and avoid any harsh or exfoliating products like retinoids or acids around the mouth for several days beforehand. Make sure to drink plenty of water on the day of your treatment to keep your lips hydrated.

Treatment
During the session, you will sit comfortably while we use the handpiece on the lip and mouth area. The treatment begins with the external lip area, where the laser warms the surface to activate collagen fibres and improve structure. The inner portion of the lips is also treated, allowing us to heat deep layers of tissue to further support volume and contour.

What Is the Average Downtime and Recovery?
Fotona LipLase™ comes with little downtime, but you may notice some mild swelling, dryness or warmth in your lips for a day or two afterward. It’s best to keep the area clean and avoid touching or rubbing the lips immediately after treatment. You should also skip hot drinks, spicy foods, and vigorous exercise for the first 24 hours to reduce irritation.
Applying a hydrating lip balm or ointment can help keep the tissue comfortable as it settles. Make sure to keep protecting your lips from the sun, and contact us if you have any concerns about your healing process.
What Results Can I Expect From My Fotona LipLase™ Treatment?
You may begin to notice subtle changes in lip texture and firmness within a few weeks as collagen activity increases. Improvements in volume, symmetry, and definition usually become more noticeable after two to three sessions, spaced several weeks apart.
The collagen remodelling process continues to develop gradually, so the final outcome often appears around the six-week mark. The result is fuller lips that look more structured. With proper care and maintenance, the effects can last several months, and you can schedule a follow-up appointment to keep your lips plump.
Fotona LipLase™ FAQ
The Fotona lip laser treatment is generally well tolerated and does not require anaesthetic. It is common to feel warmth and tingling with the application of the laser. Some people notice a feeling of tightness or slight swelling afterwards, which can be uncomfortable but tends to settle quickly. Using a soothing lip balm can help keep your lips comfortable after your treatment, but choose one with no irritating or harsh ingredients.
Mild swelling, redness or dryness are common reactions. Less commonly, temporary unevenness or sensitivity can occur as the tissue adjusts. Protecting the lips from the sun and keeping them hydrated helps reduce the likelihood of irritation. It is also important to follow the aftercare advice provided during your consultation to support your recovery.
Most treatment plans include a short series of sessions spaced several weeks apart to allow collagen stimulation to build gradually. You may begin with two to three treatments and then schedule maintenance sessions to sustain results. The exact number depends on your lip structure, tissue response, and goals discussed during consultation. Dr Aleks and Dr Indi will assess your progress at each visit and adjust the plan as needed.
Fotona LipLase™ encourages the renewal of collagen and elastin fibres, which are important for maintaining the structural integrity of the lips. As new collagen develops, the tissue becomes more resilient and better able to retain moisture. This process supports a smoother texture and improved hydration balance, and may reduce dryness that can occur with age or environmental exposure.
LipLase differs from other lip rejuvenation treatments because it enhances the lips through thermal stimulation rather than adding volume. The laser encourages your own collagen to strengthen the tissue. It also addresses the surface and internal structure of the lips simultaneously. The treatment involves no needles or downtime.
Could Fotona LipLase™ Be Right for Me?
Fotona LipLase™ may be suitable if you are interested in enhancing your lips noninvasively and have realistic expectations about gradual change. It is generally appropriate for those in good overall health with no active infections, open sores, or recent use of photosensitising medications.
Individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain medical conditions may be advised to delay treatment. During your consultation, Dr Aleks or Dr Indi will review your health history to see whether this laser approach is right for you.
