Have you noticed your lips becoming thinner or less defined over time? Perhaps fine lines have appeared above your lip line, or you're experiencing persistent dryness? Or maybe you were born with thinner looking lips? These changes are common as we age, but they don't have to be permanent. At OLA Aesthetics, we offer a variety of treatments to restore or enhance smoothness, softness, volume and hydration in your lips.
A Note From Dr Aleks
Our lips are one of our most expressive and unique features. While social media might suggest there's a singular ideal lip shape, I've observed how individual it really is. I believe in enhancing what makes your lips uniquely yours rather than following trends that promote exaggerated volume and will look dated in photographs a few years from now.
For my patients in their 20s and early 30s, treatment goals often centre around enhancing naturally thin lips or addressing asymmetries. Patients in their 40s typically notice the first significant age-related changes, such as vertical lines beginning to form and slight softening of the vermilion border. My patients in their 50s and beyond usually experience more pronounced volume loss and deeper perioral lines. What remains constant across all age groups is my commitment to ensuring your results look authentic to you.

Understanding the Ageing Process of the Lips
When we perform lip rejuvenation treatments, we work with multiple layers of facial anatomy. Each layer contributes to how your lips look and function:
Surface Layer (Epidermis)
The outermost layer of your lips undergoes several changes with age:
- The skin thins, making fine lines more visible
- Moisture retention decreases
- Natural exfoliation slows
Middle Layer (Dermis and Muscles)
Below the surface, important structural changes occur:
- Collagen and elastin production decline
- Existing collagen and elastin fibres restructure
- Muscle tone around the mouth may change
Deep Layer (Fat and Bone)
The foundational structures that support your lips also transform:
- Fat pads diminish
- Subtle changes in bone structure can alter how the lips sit on the face
Frequently Asked Questions About Lip Treatments
Maintaining healthy lips requires a consistent routine. Start by staying well-hydrated throughout the day, as dehydration quickly affects this sensitive area. Apply a nourishing lip balm several times daily, especially before bed when repair processes are most active. Exfoliate gently to remove dry, flaky skin. Try to avoid licking your lips, as saliva contains digestive enzymes that can break down lip skin and worsen dryness.
The skin on your lips is thinner than facial skin and has minimal natural defense against UV radiation. Using a dedicated lip product with SPF 30+ daily, even in winter or cloudy conditions, helps shield this delicate area from damage and slows the progression of age-related changes.
The thin skin covering your lips requires gentler care than other facial areas, so lip exfoliation should be approached with moderation. Once or twice per week is sufficient for most people. Listen to your lips — if they feel smooth and comfortable, your current routine is likely appropriate; if they feel tight or irritated, reduce exfoliation frequency and increase hydration.
Yes, all of our lip treatments are nonsurgical and minimally invasive.
Most treatments are well tolerated, and we offer numbing creams to minimise any discomfort. For more sensitive individuals, we can discuss options for additional pain management.
