Nonscalpel Vasectomy

When you’re certain your family is complete, or you’ve decided fatherhood isn’t for you, you may be interested in a permanent form of contraception. A nonscalpel vasectomy is a minimally invasive alternative to traditional vasectomy with a shorter recovery, no stitches and a high success rate.

A Note from Dr. Aleks

When you first hear the word "vasectomy," you may imagine an intimidating surgery with a lot of downtime. With the non-scalpel method, the reality is very different. There are no stitches, no large incisions and no need for general anaesthetic. Most of our patients are surprised at how quick and comfortable the experience is, and even more surprised at how fast they recover.

I understand that vasectomy is a personal and important choice. My priority is making the process simple and stress-free, with a strong focus on comfort, discretion and clarity at every step.

What Is Nonscalpel Vasectomy?

A nonscalpel vasectomy is a permanent form of contraception for men who are certain they don’t want future biological children.

Traditional vasectomy techniques require the doctor to make one or two incisions in the skin of the scrotum to access the vas deferens (the tube that carries sperm) and sever it. The non-scalpel method, on the other hand, requires no incisions. Instead, the vas deferens is accessed through a tiny puncture in the scrotum.

Once the puncture is made, the doctor uses the same technique as a traditional vasectomy to cut and seal the vas deferens so no sperm can enter the semen. The puncture heals quickly and does not require stitches.

The OLA Experience

Consultation

Medical procedures should never feel rushed or impersonal, especially when it comes to something as important as your reproductive choices. In your first consultation and every visit after, you can expect thoughtful care, clear communication and absolute respect for your privacy.

Preparation

Nonscalpel vasectomy requires minimal preparation. The day before your procedure, shave or trim the area around the scrotum. Wear comfortable underwear and clothing to your appointment. Our team will provide any specific preparation instructions during your consultation.

Treatment

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and typically takes around 20–30 minutes. Most men describe it as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful. After a short recovery period in the clinic, you will be free to head home and rest.

What Is the Average Downtime and Recovery?

Most men feel well enough to return to office work and light activities within one to two days. Avoid heavy lifting, vigorous exercise and sexual activity for about a week. You might notice some mild swelling, bruising or a feeling of heaviness, but these symptoms generally settle within a few days.

What Results Can I Expect From Nonscalpel Vasectomy?

A nonscalpel vasectomy is one of the most effective methods of permanent birth control available, with success rates over 99%. It’s important to know that you won’t be immediately sterile after the procedure — it takes time for remaining sperm to clear from your reproductive system. We will schedule a follow-up semen analysis to confirm that the procedure has been successful, and you should continue using other contraception until then.
