Excessive Sweating / Hyperhidrosis Treatments

Excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, is a medical condition that causes the sweat glands to go into overdrive. It results in abnormal sweating unrelated to heat or exercise, commonly affecting the face, hands, underarms and sometimes, the soles of the feet.

At OLA Aesthetics, we understand the impact this condition can have on your daily life. We offer a treatment option at our West Perth clinic that can help manage your symptoms and provide you with relief from excessive sweating.

A Note From Dr Aleks

At OLA Aesthetics, we understand that hyperhidrosis can be a challenging condition to live with. Our approach to treating it is rooted in a deep understanding of its physiological mechanisms and an appreciation for the distress it can cause — that’s why our treatments are carefully selected and professionally administered to help manage your symptoms. If you’re bothered by excessive sweating, I invite you to schedule a private consultation with us to discuss your options, which include muscle relaxation and radiofrequency.

What Causes Excessive Sweating?

Sweat serves an important function — it is an odourless fluid made of mostly water and some salts that helps prevent overheating. If your body temperature starts to rise, sweat is released from eccrine (sweat) glands in the skin and moves to the surface, where it evaporates. In the process of evaporating, it “borrows” some energy (heat) from your skin and carries it away, cooling you down. It’s the same reason you might feel cold after stepping out of the shower.

In people with hyperhidrosis, the nerves that control sweating are overly sensitive and cause the eccrine glands to go into overdrive. This can result in excessive sweating even when you’re at rest or in colder temperatures. Fortunately, treatment options are available that can temporarily “turn off” these overactive sweat glands, reducing excessive sweating and unwanted side effects like skin irritation or body odour that often accompany it.

The OLA Experience

Consultation

At OLA Aesthetics, your treatment experience begins with a private consultation with Dr Aleks or Dr Indi. During this initial consultation, your doctor will evaluate your symptoms and recommend the best solution for controlling excessive sweating. They will also explain the treatment process in more detail so you feel confident and informed about your procedure.

Preparation

Treatment for excessive sweating involves little to no preparation, but provide your doctor with a list of any herbal supplements or medication you’re taking to ensure a safe and effective procedure. We also recommend avoiding alcohol and products that could irritate the skin.

Treatment

You can expect your procedure to take as little as 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Before beginning, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed to remove dirt, oil and other residue. Then, your doctor will target areas with overactive sweat glands to help you find relief from hyperhidrosis.

What Is the Average Downtime and Recovery?

Treatment for excessive sweating at OLA Aesthetics involves little to no downtime. In most cases, patients are able to resume all normal activities immediately after their appointment. It’s not uncommon to experience mild redness, bruising or swelling in treated areas, but these side effects are temporary and should resolve on their own within a few hours. To avoid skin irritation, we recommend not using deodorants or perfumes under your arms for the first 24 hours. Intense exercise and hot baths or saunas should also be avoided for 24 hours.

What Results Can I Expect From My Treatment?

While your treatment can reduce excessive sweating, the results are not permanent. You’ll start to notice an improvement within three days, but the full effects of treatment appear after two to four weeks. Then, you can expect to experience a reduction in sweating that lasts for up to six months. As the treatment starts to wear off, the sweat glands may become more active again, but you can maintain your results with a follow-up appointment at our West Perth clinic.

Could Hyperhidrosis Treatments Be Right for Me?

If you’re bothered by excessive sweating that leaves you feeling damp and uncomfortable, hyperhidrosis treatments could be right for you. However, the decision to undergo any treatment should be made in consultation with a qualified medical professional.

At OLA Aesthetics, your needs and concerns will be evaluated by Dr Aleks or Dr Indi to determine if hyperhidrosis treatments are right for you. We take the time to understand your goals and ensure that treatment is likely to be both safe and effective before proceeding.
