Skin Conditions We Treat

Acne

Acne affects people of all ages, not just teenagers. This common skin condition occurs when pores become clogged with oil and dead skin cells, leading to pimples, blackheads, whiteheads and sometimes deeper, painful cysts. The goals of acne treatment are to clear existing lesions, stop new breakouts and prevent acne scars.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that primarily affects the face, causing redness, visible blood vessels and sometimes small, red bumps. Fare-ups can be triggered by a variety of factors. Rosacea cannot be cured, but it can be managed by using the right treatments and products and avoiding your triggers.

Melasma

Melasma appears as brown or grey-brown patches on the face. They are most likely to form on the cheeks, bridge of the nose, forehead and upper lip. This condition is especially common during pregnancy, leading to its nickname "the mask of pregnancy." While melasma may go away on its own, it can also last for years and be difficult to treat.

Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)

PIH occurs when skin injury or inflammation leaves behind darkened marks on the skin. It can result from any injury that causes inflammation or skin conditions such as acne or eczema. PIH is more common and often more persistent in individuals with darker skin tones.

Solar Lentigines (Sun Spots / Age Spots / Liver Spots)

Also known as age spots or liver spots, solar lentigines are flat, darkened patches of skin that result from years of sun exposure. They typically appear on areas that are frequently exposed to the sun, such as the face, hands, shoulders and arms.

Freckles

Freckles are small, flat brown spots that often appear on sun-exposed skin. They're more common in fair-skinned individuals and tend to become more pronounced with sun exposure. While harmless, some people seek treatment for cosmetic reasons.

Moles

Moles (or naevi) are growths that develop when pigment cells grow in clusters. They can vary widely in appearance, ranging from flat to raised, smooth to rough, and from pink or tan to dark brown or black. Most moles are harmless, but changes in a mole's appearance may warrant a check for skin cancer.

Perioral Dermatitis

This inflammatory condition causes a red rash with small bumps around the mouth and nose. It can also appear around your eyes or nose. Skin is commonly dry and flaky in the area of the rash, and the rash may itch or cause a burning sensation. If the rash does not clear on its own, medical treatment can help.

Fungal Nail Infections

Fungal nail infections cause discolouration, thickening and brittleness of the nails. These infections can be persistent and challenging to treat without proper medical intervention. Treatment can prevent the infection from spreading to others and causing more damage to your nails.

Seborrhoeic Keratoses

These common benign growths appear as waxy, stuck-on-looking lesions that can range in colour from light tan to black. They're more common with age and, while harmless, can sometimes be irritating or cosmetically concerning.

Actinic Keratoses

These rough, scaly patches of skin result from years of sun exposure and are considered precancerous lesions. Early treatment can prevent their progression to skin cancer.

Skin Tags

Skin tags are small, soft, flesh-coloured growths that hang off the skin. They're completely benign and often appear in areas where skin rubs against skin or clothing.

Lumps and Bumps

Various benign lumps and bumps can develop on the skin, including cysts, lipomas and milia. While most are not reason for worry medically, they can sometimes cause discomfort or cosmetic concerns.

Skin Cancer

We provide comprehensive skin cancer screening services to detect potential issues early when they're most treatable. Our doctors are experienced in identifying suspicious lesions and determining appropriate next steps, whether that's monitoring, biopsy or surgical removal.

Our Approach to Dermatology

Your skin is constantly communicating, and sometimes it sends signals you shouldn't ignore. Our doctors help you decipher those signals and map out the best route forward.

Consultation

Your consultation begins with a thorough discussion of your concerns and medical history. We examine your skin carefully, paying special attention to any areas of concern. This conversation helps us understand the physical aspects of your condition and how it may be affecting your daily life.

Diagnosis

To gather even more information, we may use an advanced diagnostic procedure called dermatoscopy. A dermatoscope is a noninvasive tool that magnifies and illuminates the skin surface, allowing us to see features that may be invisible to the naked eye. Dermatoscopy helps us make more accurate assessments and track changes in your skin over time.

Treatment

Our doctors select from various treatment options based on your diagnosis, skin type, lifestyle factors and personal preferences. We consider how each treatment might interact with your existing health conditions, medications and skin treatments. Depending on your needs, we may combine modalities to address your immediate concerns while setting you up for improved skin health in the future.

Education

We prioritise open communication throughout your treatment. During your visits, we take the time to explain your skin condition, its causes and how different treatments work. We provide practical advice on daily skincare routines tailored to your specific needs and skin type. We want to empower you with the knowledge needed to maintain healthy skin for years to come.

Monitoring

Skin conditions often evolve over time. During your follow-up appointments, we document any changes in your skin, evaluate the effectiveness of your current treatment plan and make refinements to your plan as necessary. Ongoing monitoring helps us build a comprehensive understanding of your skin's unique patterns and needs.
