Fotona SmoothEye®

The skin surrounding the eyes is distinct from the rest of the face. It is thinner, more delicate, and often one of the first areas to show visible signs of ageing. Because this skin has less collagen and fewer oil glands, it can be more prone to fine lines, crepiness, and a gradual loss of firmness.

It is important for treatments in this area not to be too harsh and to find a balance between stimulating collagen and protecting the skin’s integrity. At OLA Aesthetics, we can use Fotona SmoothEye around the eyes to tighten and lift the skin. This treatment can be used for patients who don’t want surgery and are looking for less invasive ways to improve the area around the eyes.

A Note From Dr Aleks

I don’t trust just any device when it comes to treating the delicate area around the eyes. The skin there is thin and sensitive, so precision and control are absolutely essential. The Fotona technology allows me to treat this area using a nonablative approach, meaning it does not remove any skin but still stimulates collagen under the surface.

This process can help soften some of the visible signs of ageing that my patients are concerned about. This treatment is rewarding because it offers these benefits with less downtime than other options, like surgery or ablative lasers.

What Is Fotona SmoothEye?

Fotona SmoothEye is a nonablative laser treatment designed specifically for the thin, delicate skin around the eyes. It uses controlled thermal energy to tighten the tissue and encourage new collagen formation. The treatment can improve firmness and reduce crow’s feet, fine lines under the eyes, eye bags and more. There is less downtime with this treatment because of the nonablative technology, and the treatment is comfortable.

How Does Fotona SmoothEye Work?

SmoothEye uses Fotona’s Er:YAG laser in SMOOTH® mode, a technology that distributes light energy in a series of rapid, sub-second pulses. These pulses gently heat the tissue just below the surface while preventing excessive temperature build-up above.

The laser energy penetrates several hundred micrometres into the skin and creates a uniform thermal effect that causes mild collagen contraction and increased tissue density. Fotona’s technology stands out for its ability to deliver consistent, even energy while reducing irritation and downtime.

The OLA Experience

Consultation

Dr Aleks and Dr Indi approach every consultation with compassion, taking the time to truly understand your skin and your goals. You will notice their care and attention from the very beginning, as they focus on educating patients to make informed decisions about their skin. Integrity and transparency are a part of every discussion, so you will receive clear information about what the treatment involves, what to expect and whether it aligns with your goals.

Preparation

Caring for the skin around your eyes before your treatment helps create a good foundation for your results. Make sure to avoid activities that could make your skin more sensitive, like sun exposure, tanning products, and active skincare ingredients. Replace these products instead with light moisturisers and daily sunscreen use. We will let you know if you need to adjust any medications or supplements before your treatment.

Treatment

We will start by cleaning the area around your eyes to remove surface oils or residue. We will give you protective eyewear to shield them from the laser light. You will notice a feather-like pattern on the skin around your eyes and eyelids, and the area may tingle or feel warm.

At OLA Aesthetics, every treatment plan begins with understanding your skin. We only recommend treatments we believe will provide meaningful benefit, selecting technologies and settings that best suit your situation. Treatments are chosen and performed with careful judgement, clinical precision, and respect for the natural qualities of your skin.

What Is the Average Downtime and Recovery?

After a Fotona SmoothEye treatment, the skin around your eyes may feel warm and slightly tight. You might also notice some temporary redness or swelling. We recommend avoiding makeup, heavy creams, or active skincare products until your skin has fully calmed.

Keeping the area clean and hydrated is important. Use only gentle, non-irritating products and follow any aftercare directions we provide. You can resume most of your usual activities right away, but it’s best to avoid direct sun exposure and always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen.

What Results Can I Expect From My Fotona SmoothEye Treatment?

You can expect gradual, progressive improvements as your skin responds to the laser energy. In the first week, you may notice the area feels firmer and looks slightly tighter as mild swelling subsides. Beneath the surface, collagen production is beginning to increase, helping the skin regain structure and support.

Over the next few weeks, this collagen remodelling process continues, smoothing fine lines and improving elasticity. The full effect will come about two to three months later.  We may recommend a short series of sessions to increase your results and maintain skin firmness over time. As with any treatment, these results vary from person to person.
