Forma is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to tighten and lift the skin on the face and neck. This treatment is safe for all skin types and can be used to treat a variety of concerns, including wrinkles, fine lines, sagging skin, and loss of volume.

During a Forma treatment, a handheld device is used to deliver radiofrequency energy to the skin. This energy heats the deep layers of the skin, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. These proteins are essential for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness, and their production decreases as we age.

Forma by InMode

A Note from Dr Aleks

Forma has quickly become one of my preferred options for skin tightening. I love that it gives immediate results

without any downtime. My clients can come in for a treatment and leave the clinic looking lifted and ready to take on the day. It's the perfect option for those who want to refresh their appearance before a big event.

I also love that it’s versatile. Pairing Forma with a Hydrafacial gives an instant glow, for example, while combining it with radiofrequency microneedling can deliver more significant improvements in skin tightness, texture and overall quality. There are many ways to strategically combine Forma with other procedures for comprehensive results.

What is Forma?

Forma uses radiofrequency technology to tighten and smooth the skin. We’ve found it to be a favourite among clients who seek a natural-looking lift without the invasiveness and downtime of surgical procedures.

Forma is part of a suite of radiofrequency treatments made by InMode. Each has a different approach and applications, allowing us to choose the treatment or combination of treatments that suits your specific needs.

We use Forma for treating the face and neck. It can be applied to small and delicate areas, such as around the eyes, as well as larger areas like the cheeks and forehead.

How Does Forma Work?

Radiofrequency (RF) energy can penetrate into your skin's deeper layers without causing damage to the surface. When the Forma handpiece is applied to your skin, it emits RF energy that gently heats the underlying tissues, particularly the dermis, which is the layer responsible for your skin's structural support.

As the dermis is heated to a specific temperature range, it triggers a cascade of biological responses. The thermal energy causes an immediate contraction of the existing collagen and elastin fibres to produce a noticeable tightening effect. The heat also stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin.

Precise temperature control is critical. The Forma device automatically maintains a consistent temperature range of  40-43°C, ensuring that we cannot overtreat or undertreat an area.

The OLA Experience

Consultation

The first step of your Forma treatment is a consultation. You can expect a warm, welcoming environment where your expectations are heard and your safety is prioritised. You will leave your consultation with a clear understanding of what to expect from your Forma treatments, including the number of sessions recommended, the anticipated results, and all pre- and post-treatment care instructions.

Preparation

In the days leading up to your Forma treatment, discontinue the use of any topical products or skincare actives that may irritate your skin. It is also important to avoid other cosmetic treatments, such as microdermabrasion or laser, for at least a week and to protect the area to be treated from prolonged sun exposure. Forma cannot be performed on sunburned skin. On the day of your treatment, please do not apply makeup.

Treatment

During a Forma treatment, we use a handheld device to deliver radiofrequency energy into your skin. We will apply a gel beforehand to help conduct the energy and allow the handpiece to glide smoothly over your skin. You will feel a warming sensation that is often likened to a hot stone massage. The treatment typically lasts between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.

In my experience, both Forma and FaceTite are excellent options for skin tightening. Forma offers a noninvasive approach for patients who want to address mild to moderate skin laxity and fine lines with no downtime. FaceTite is a minimally invasive treatment that comes with some downtime, but can address more significant skin laxity, plus stubborn fat. Ultimately, the choice between Forma and FaceTite depends on your needs, goals and preferences.

What Is the Average Downtime and Recovery?

Forma treatments typically require no downtime. You may experience temporary flushing or erythema (redness) in the area of treatment. If this occurs, it is usually mild and only lasts a couple of hours post-procedure.

In most cases, there is no need for any special recovery measures or restrictions after a Forma treatment. You can resume your normal skincare routine and apply makeup as usual. It’s even possible to attend a special event later in the day.

What Results Can I Expect From My Forma Treatment?

Forma can deliver noticeable results in the appearance of sagging skin, wrinkles and facial contours. While individual results may vary depending on factors such as age and skin quality, most patients can expect to see immediate improvements in skin tightness and lift.

The results continue to develop for up to three months as your body produces new collagen and elastin. This ongoing rejuvenation process enhances the tightening, lifting and smoothing effects of the treatment.

Your results can last for a few weeks after a single session. For longer-lasting results, we recommend a series of initial treatments followed by yearly maintenance.

Forma FAQ

Is Forma painful?

While everyone's pain tolerance varies, the majority of patients undergo the procedure without any issues, reporting only a warm sensation in the treated area. The device is equipped with temperature control to ensure the heat has a therapeutic effect while minimising discomfort.

What are the risks of radiofrequency skin tightening?

Forma is a relatively low-risk procedure. No adverse long-term side effects have been reported. The most common side effect is slight temporary redness in the treated area which fades within a few hours. Your provider will assess your individual risk factors during your consultation. Do not hesitate to raise any questions or concerns you may have, as we want to be transparent and informative.

How many Forma procedures do I need?

Most patients benefit from a series of three to six treatments spaced one week apart. The number of treatments recommended for you will depend on your specific concerns, the starting condition of your skin and the goals you hope to achieve.

What is the difference between radiofrequency skin tightening and ultrasound skin tightening?

Radiofrequency and ultrasound are two different technologies used for nonsurgical skin tightening. Radiofrequency uses electromagnetic energy to generate heat within the skin's deeper layers, while ultrasound uses sound waves. Both stimulate collagen and elastin production.

What is the pricing for Forma treatments?

Could Forma Be Right for Me?

Forma may be an option if you are looking for a noninvasive, no-downtime solution for tightening and lifting your skin. It is suitable for all skin types and tones, given its precise temperature control and gentle nature.

If you're wondering whether Forma is for you, consider the following:

  • Are you beginning to notice fine lines, wrinkles or a slight loss of elasticity in your skin?

  • Are you looking for a treatment with minimal to no downtime?

  • Do you prefer gradual, natural-looking results rather than a dramatic change?

  • Are you open to a treatment plan involving multiple sessions?

  • Are you currently pregnant or breastfeeding?

A consultation with one of our experienced doctors is necessary to confirm if Forma is a fit for your needs. Our team will assess your skin, discuss your objectives and develop a personalised treatment plan.

Forma and Morpheus8 are both fantastic InMode technologies. Forma is wonderful for skin tightening and lifting with no damage to the skin surface and no downtime. Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency to remodel both the skin surface and the underlying layer more intensively. There is some downtime, but it is a good choice for patients with more advanced skin concerns.
