PRP Hair Treatment

Your own blood, put to work on your own hair.

Not every answer to thinning hair is surgical. Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, uses a small sample of your own blood, concentrated and returned to your scalp to support the follicles you still have. Nothing synthetic is introduced, and nothing is used that did not come from you. It is a considered, non-surgical option, delivered by our registered doctors in our West Perth clinic, and it works best when it is chosen for the right reasons and at the right time. We will tell you honestly whether that is you.

A Note from Dr Indi

There is a lot of noise in this field, and hair loss is a subject where people are easily sold hope. I have no interest in doing that.

PRP is a treatment I like, because it uses nothing but what your own body already makes, and because when it is the right fit it can quietly do a lot of good. But it is not magic, and it is not for everyone. It supports follicles that are still there. It will not bring back what has already gone.

So you will be met with honesty first. We will find out why your hair is thinning, and I will tell you plainly whether PRP will help you, whether something else would serve you better, or whether the most useful thing I can say is that this is not the treatment for you.

More than anything, I want you to feel the same comfort and trust that OLA was built on. I look forward to welcoming you.

Summary

  • What it is: A non-surgical treatment using platelet-rich plasma drawn from your own blood
  • How it works: A small blood sample is taken, concentrated, and returned to the scalp at follicle level
  • Anaesthetic: Topical numbing for comfort
  • Session length: Around 45 to 60 minutes
  • Downtime: Minimal, with most people returning to everyday activities the same day
  • Typical course: An initial series of sessions spaced several weeks apart
  • Maintenance: Ongoing sessions are usually part of the plan rather than optional
  • First signs of change: Often reduced shedding within the first few months
  • Visible density change: Generally over several months of consistent treatment
  • Best suited to: Early to moderate thinning where follicles are still active
  • Not suited to: Areas of established baldness where follicles are no longer present
  • Performed by: OLA's registered doctors
  • First step: A private consultation to identify the cause of your hair loss and confirm suitability

What PRP can help with

  • Early to moderate thinning supporting follicles that are miniaturising but still active
  • Increased shedding helping to settle hair that is shedding more than it should
  • A widening part adding support where density is dropping along the part line
  • Crown and mid-scalp thinning where hair is thinning rather than absent
  • Diffuse thinning where loss is spread across the scalp rather than patterned
  • Alongside a hair transplant supporting the scalp and the hair around a transplanted area
  • After a transplant supporting recovery and the hair you already have, where your doctor recommends it

Your PRP treatment, step by step

From your first conversation onwards, every stage is handled by our medical team with care, clarity and discretion.

Consultation and assessment

Your journey begins with a private consultation with an OLA doctor. We assess your scalp, your hair and the pattern of your loss, and we look into what is actually causing it. PRP is only worth doing if it addresses the right problem, so the cause comes first.

Your blood sample

A small sample of your blood is taken, much like a standard blood test.

Preparation

The sample is spun in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of your blood.

Treatment

Your scalp is numbed for comfort, and the concentrated plasma is returned to the treatment area at the level of the follicles. A session usually takes around 45 to 60 minutes.

Afterwards

Most people return to everyday activities the same day. You will be given clear aftercare guidance, and your doctor will map out your course of sessions and what maintenance looks like from there.

Is PRP right for you?

PRP suits people in good general health with early to moderate thinning, where the follicles are still active and there is something left to work with. It tends to serve people best who come in early, before hair is lost rather than after.

It is not right for everyone. If your hair loss is well established and the follicles are gone, PRP cannot bring them back, and we will say so rather than sell you a course of treatments that will not deliver. If there is an underlying cause driving your hair loss, such as a hormonal or nutritional factor, treating that comes first. And if a transplant is the better path for you, that is what we will recommend.

Suitability is a medical decision, not a checkbox. Not sure where you sit? A consultation is the clearest first step.

Results, and the timeline behind them

PRP works gradually. Reduced shedding is often the first change people notice, sometimes within the first few months, with any change in density building slowly over a course of treatment rather than appearing after a single session. Results are maintained with ongoing sessions, and they will fade if treatment stops.

Individual results vary, and PRP does not work for everyone. Your doctor will discuss what you can reasonably expect based on your own hair, the cause of your thinning and how far it has progressed, during your consultation.
